Teaching Philosophy

Matthew began teaching piano at the age of fifteen and has continued to deepen his expertise through specialized study in piano pedagogy. He earned a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy, supplemented by additional coursework in vocal pedagogy and the philosophies of education. He holds a California Single-Subject Teaching Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
An active member of leading professional arts and music education organizations—including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), the Royal Conservatory of Music, the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT), and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA)—Matthew has published peer-reviewed articles and presented on educational topics at state, national, and international conferences. A dedicated and experienced educator, his students consistently achieve top honors in competitions, examinations, and public performances. His background in theatre and collaborative piano has also enabled him to provide specialized vocal and dramatic coaching.
Matthew is passionate about working with both young students and adult learners. He is committed to fostering a deeper appreciation for music and the arts through structured yet adaptable instruction tailored to each student’s needs and goals. He firmly believes that, regardless of age or background, individuals can enhance their self-understanding and perspective on the world through the rewarding study of music and drama.
